SAMPLE QUIZ 4:

SEC. 2.4

1.  Solve for r:  48 = 12r

2.  Solve for  p in each case: (a)  -15 = 6p – p. (b) -14p + 8p = 6 - 60

3.  Solve for n:  - n = - 75

SEC. 2.5

4. Solve for x: -5x – 4 = 16

5. Note~you can solve in two ways—(i) keep that variable term on the left when you solve for it or (ii) keep  variable term on the right. Beware you may be dividing by a negative to solve but that's not a crime! Just make sure your answer is correctly signed by checking if you're dividing two negatives or a negative and positive. Solve for x: (a) -2x – 6 = 6x + 10 (b) -18 + 7x = 2x + 7

6. Solve for y: -18 + 13y + 3 = 3(5y – 1) – 2 ( I did this in class!)

Sec.  3.1

7. For some rectangle, you're given perimeter P and length L. P is 30 cm and L is 12 cm. Find  width W.

Hint:  P = 2*L + 2*W. After substituting the value for L, isolate W by first undoing addition (subtracting) and

then dividing (undoing multplication) by 2.

8.  What's the  perimeter of a parallelogram with one side 100 ft and the other side 60 ft?

MAKE A SKETCH  OF  YOUR  PARALLELOGRAM; IF NECESSARY GOOGLE

THE WORD ‘PARALELLOGRAM‘   TO SEE AN EXAMPLE. Answers will vary but

all structures will have common attributes; the opposite sides are parallel, even though the

structure is NOT right angled like a rectangle or special square.

9. Find perimeter P of right angled structure below. THAT MEANS ALL LINES

CROSS AT 90 DEGREES.  You might pretend you’re working for a carpet

company  laying down sections. Study picture carefully.

Sec. 3.2

10. What's the area of the parallelogram?

11. The height h of a parallelogram is 13 cm and the area A is 52 cm 2.  What is base b?

12.  In the shape of a rectangle, Raina’s college recording studio  is 4 m wide and 5 m long.  She’s pasting a

sound-insulating strip costing $6 per meter around the top edge of walls to absorb noise from upstairs

Chabot student club  office holding late hours. How much will  she spend?
